The warehouse maturity scan computes the maturity of a warehouse, shows its potential savings and provides tips for further optimization. The scan comes from the book Highly Competitive Warehouse Management by Jeroen van den Berg. The book provides a ready-made roadmap for improving your warehouse to best-in-class level. It distinguishes four stages of maturity:
- Phase 1 – Reactive: The warehouse is poorly organized.
- Phase 2 – Effective: The processes are streamlined by bringing transparency into the operation.
- Phase 3 – Responsive: Warehouse operations are well planned and controlled using intelligent IT.
- Phase 4 – Collaborative: The warehouse is an equal partner in the supply chain and provides more added value.
Instructions
If your company has multiple warehouses, take a specific warehouse in mind when answering the survey. If it is a public warehouse with multiple clients, then consider the operation of the main client(s). The four answers to each question are listed in order of increasing sophistication. If you feel that your operation is somewhere in between two answers, then you should choose the lowest answer. For example, if your warehouse is almost at answer c, but not quite, still choose answer b.
