Many Drop-Outs in Benelux Market

Sixty percent of the WMS packages that have been actively marketed in the Benelux since 1996 are now on a dead track. A large part has simply vanished from the market or is only offered passively. This follows from an investigation by research and consulting firm Jeroen van den Berg Consulting.

Starting point for the investigation were the 75 WMS packages that appeared in the surveys by Berenschot, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers since 1996. Only forty percent, or 30 packages, still plays an active role in the market. Eighteen suppliers have a full-grown package with ten or more implementations in the Benelux. The other twelve suppliers do not have that yet, but may still conquer a market position. Reasons for the high system turnover are the relatively limited market size, the complex projects and the chicken-and-the-egg-problem that potential customers are hard to convince without an extensive reference list.
